Accounting Manager Job Description

Reporting to the VP, Accounting, the accounting manager will be responsible for monitoring general accounting practices, budgeting, developing internal controls, and managing day-to-day accounting operations, including leading, motivating and retaining a team of high performing employees that can deliver the results to support our continuous growth. The scope of this role includes, but is not limited to the following:

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare appropriate general ledger entries and account reconciliations
  • Maintain the accounting system and record financial transactions
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS in a timely manner
  • Organizes and controls month-end and year-end close processes and financial reporting activities
  • Assist in year-end financial audits
  • Assist with regulatory reporting, as applicable
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and/or IFRS
  • Support the preparation of the monthly/periodic and year-end financial management reports comparing actuals against the approved budget, and explanation of related variance analysis
  • Provide financial guidance and expertise to the management and the business units as required
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide accounting policies and procedures and regulatory requirements across functional lines
  • Lead, motivate and retain an accounting team of high performing employees

  • Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; preference given to those with a master's degree
  • Accounting designation (CPA) required
  • Extensive knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls
  • Excellent computer skills including advanced excel; experience in various accounting and reporting software; Microsoft Office Suite
  • 6+ years of corporate accounting experience
  • 2-3 years in a supervisory/managerial capacity
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS and GAAP as well as managerial accounting
  • Resolves complex accounting issues, self motivated and customer focused
  • Experience working with QuickBooks would be an asset
  • Time management, highly organized, detail oriented, and follow-up skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and collaborate on projects
